Case Studies: Honeywell
Company: Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions (ACS) is a $7.5 billion strategic business group applying sensing and control expertise that helps create safer, more comfortable, more secure, and more productive environments.
Product: Honeywell Atrium offers a package of five e.Building Management service modules that help multi-facility operations take greater control of their energy costs and improve the bottom line of their enterprise. The Web-enabled Atrium Service Pak is the industry's only service that combine data-mining technology with analysis by professional energy analysts. Customers get ongoing, actionable recommendations that can be implemented for immediate savings results.
Challenge: A national grocery chain customer of Honeywell needed to apply Atrium technology to refrigeration units and other high energy-usage capital equipment in order to monitor and manage energy costs more effectively. Because these units were already installed in a nationwide chain of stores, cabling the necessary sensors to critical areas was cost prohibitive. Having worked with Honeywell over the past ten years on Atrium, WynEdge was asked to find a solution that could cost effectively be integrated with Atrium.
Solution: WynEdge software engineers worked closely with Honeywell and Dust Networks to design a cost effective wireless solution. Using a series of motes - small wireless devices comprised of a battery, sensor, and radio frequency transmitter - the grocery chain was able to measure how much energy an individual machine uses at any time during the day. It uses the data to detect faulty equipment and to optimize energy usage. Because motes have the added ability to act as repeaters for each other, even those motes installed a great distance from a receiver can successfully send critical data.

Results: Honeywell customers have saved significant dollars thanks to the wireless technology WynEdge incorporated into Atrium. The installation savings alone is estimated to be $15,000 per location. The energy savings derived from Atrium and wireless sensors makes the ROI very appealing to any national chain looking to monitor and manage energy usage on a location-by-location basis. WynEdge played a lead role in selecting Dust Networks and incorporating its technology into Atrium.
